Memorandum of Understanding between the TUM-IAS and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation signed
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof. Wolfgang Herrmann (TUM President and Chairman of the IAS Board of Trustees) and Dr. Georg Schütte (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Secretary General) in Berlin on May 7th, in conjunction with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation ceremony for the award of the first Humboldt Professors.
The document can be viewed here and can be summarized as follows:
The TUM-IAS will welcome Humboldt Prize winners and Humboldt Professors to its activities and will connect them to its Focus Groups. The Humboldt Awardees who are connected to a Focus Group of the IAS will be eligible to apply for “Start up funds” from the IAS. The Humboldt foundation will promote cooperation between its own awardees stationed at the TUM and Fellows of the IAS. The executive staff of both institutions will keep each other informed of progress with their collaboration and meet on a yearly basis to evaluate potentialities.
This is the first document of this kind between the Humboldt Foundation and any German university. The idea for a MoU was proposed by Schütte, also and IAS Board members, to strengthen the existing IAS involvement of Humboldt Awardees in the institute. The goal of the MoU is to make Humboldt Awardees Aware of this additional benefit to the when the visit TUM.
