Chinese-German Workshop "Sustainable Development of Megacities: A Mega‐Challenge for China and the World"

Soon over 50% of the global population will live in urban areas, partly in informal cities. On the one hand the supply of those inhabitants with water, food and energy will get more and more difficult - on the other hand this population will consume more and more resources and causes a larger ecological footprint. To built sustainable infrastructures for developing urban areas is a global challenge. If this fails the resilience of the Earth System will be endangered.
During this workshop holistic solutions and guidelines will be presented for tackling the current crises of the earth system. The workshop searches after model solutions for a sustainable development of mega cities in the area of land use, integrated water management as well as energy supply and air quality.
