Prof. Yasuhiko Arakawa and the Walter Schottky Institut (Prof. Gerhard Abstreiter and Prof. Jonathan Finley) will start a joint project in the area of "Si nanophotonics". This project will be part of the focus area of TUM-IAS on "Nanoscience" and is also linked to the cluster of excellence "Nanosystems Initiative Munich". Prof. Arakawa will spend as a Hans Fischer Senior Fellow several shorter and longer periods of time at Walter Schottky Institut, TUM-IAS and NIM during the coming 3 years in order to intensify this collaboration. It is also expected that the two PhD students will perform part of their research at the home institute of Prof. Arakawa at University of Tokyo.
Dr. Ulrich Rant aims to design novel bio-nanostructures consisting of biological macromolecules and solid matter. These hybrid-devices are engineered to feature unprecedented functionalities in order to monitor and manipulate physical, chemical, or biological processes on nanometer length scales. During his Carl von Linde Junior Fellowship at TUM, his research focuses (i) on solid-state nanopores to probe bio-molecular interactions on a single-molecule level and (ii) on DNA-templated plasmonic devices to concentrate and manipulate light beyond the diffraction limit.
Prof. Gerhard Abstreiter is a Professor at the TUM Experimental Semiconductor Physics Department, and as a Carl von Linde Senior Fellow active in this TUM-IAS Focus Group.
