Dr. Ian Sharp’s program of research focuses on the formation and study of bioelectronic and biophotonic systems formed by covalent grafting of photosynthetic reaction centers onto silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor substrates. The aim of this work will be to develop a comprehensive and fundamental understanding of charge transfer processes occurring at the bio-inorganic interface and to exploit such findings for formation of multi-functional structures at the nanoscale.
Prof. Shuit-Tong Lee proposes to establish a collaborative program dedicated to the controlled synthesis, fabrication and characterization of nanostructures from semiconductors (groups IV, III-V, and II-VI) and oxides (TiO2, SnO2, GeO2, SiO2, etc). These nano-materials will be further functionalized to enhance their application potentials. In particular, the program will focus on the applications of these nanomaterials and nanostructures in the areas of renewable energy, biological and biomedical science, and green environment.
