Short CV

Robijn Bruinsma received his Bachelor and Master of physics from Vrije University Amsterdam in 1974 and Rijks University Utrecht in 1976 respectively. In 1976, he was awarded his doctoral degree from the University of Southern California. Bruinsma joined Harvard University as a postdoctoral Fellow from 1979 to 1980. He subsequently became a Research Associate at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1980, where he stayed for two years, followed by a position as Visiting Scientist at the IBM Research Center in Yorktown. At the University of California, where Bruinsma started as an Assistant Professor in 1984, he is currently Full Professor. Additionally, he holds the chair of Theoretical Physics for the Life Sciences at Leiden University since 2001. Among others, he has been awarded the Pierre et Marie Curie Visiting Professorship, Rothschild Foundation Fellowship and he is Fellow of the American Physical Society as well.
